The video demonstrates how skills weapons tactics and equipment make their way into organised crime syndicates
With conflict zones heating up all over the world access to sophisticated weapons making their way into the black market is increasing daily This was demonstrated in Mali recently where terrorists used surfacetoair missiles successfully to bring down an aircraft It is leaving security forces outgunned internationally
With the 7 billion in arms left in Afghanistan by the US and the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East security professionals need to consider the increase in threat and likelihood of attack from adversaries with advanced weaponry

ppShould Israel call off itâs ground counteroffensive in Gaza
I know it is not in their hearts or collective will to stop short of escalation in Gaza We probably had similar feelings after the 911 attacks in the US However when revenge and collective punishment are the main effort it usually turns out poorly
With history as the only guide the Israeli Defense Force IDF will likely go over board inflicting more than 20 times Palestinian casualties many will be noncombatants warcrimes will occur Israelis will later regret their actions and will try their own leaders for warcrimes
Israeli and Palestinian casualties were already at parity Likely after the last couple days of fighting Palestinian casualties are already higher than Israeli Gross disproportionality will bring condemnation of Israel where there is now sympathy This will create more deep grievances and Hamas recruitment for a generation
Israel does not presently face an existential threat from Hamas Gross disproportionality could draw in other countries or organizations that may pose an existential threat to Israel This can easily broaden into a regional conflict
Israel should use this moment of increased international sympathy to expand its coalition They and this coalition should negotiate for the safe return of remaining hostages And continue the blockade of Gaza until they are returned
Responding in kind to terrorism does not demonstrate a responsible nationstate but rather an immature country that needs safeguards A ground invasion is not likely to bring the hostages back alive unless that is already part of the Hamas plan I suspect it is not
There is nowhere for the Palestinians to go and most people and countries in the region have now accepted Israelâs existence at least within its 1967 borders Clearly they do need better security defenses and intelligence to head off something like this in the future
Calling upon references to biblical times or even the Holocaust are no help in the resolution of this conflict In 1947 there should have been a separate Israeli and Palestinian state with a sharing agreement relative to Jerusalem
Palestinians should have the right to selfdetermination Such a Palestinian state would be more responsive to the carrots and sticks of nationstates and certainly more moderate than Hamas with grievances fading rather than growing
This conflict was not caused by the recent US prisoner exchange with Iran or SaudiIsraeli negotiations They are too near term The attack required significant preparation The brutality signifies deep grievances not these sorts of diplomatic efforts
The main grievances surround Palestinians living under occupation by an occupying power that does not uphold the obligations of an occupying power These obligations donât change simply because the occupied people donât like it Israel has no intention of doing so and therefore should end the occupation

ppThis week I was on a panel of judges for a DPO of the year award The winner would become an Ambassador for Data Protection and DPOs at the country level I was quite excited to have been asked to sit on the judging panel
Sadly the nominees were all underwhelming not because they didnt have knowledge or experience but because they illustrated no passion whatsoever They didnt tell us any stories they didnt talk about their challenges or successes they didnt talk about the importance of fundamental rights and there was little to no discussion about emerging threatschallenges such as AI
It seems that all of the nominees were also self nominated which is perhaps part of the problem
If you are up for an award that carries with it an ongoing role as an ambassador or representative of a specific industry you need to do more than just talk about the grind you need to tell a story that will inspire not just the judges but those other people you will be speaking to in your future ambassador role
As judges we are subject matter experts we dont want to hear about what compliance is we want to hear about you your struggles your journey your achievements your contributions to the wider cause your motivations and inspirations what drives you and makes you get up every morning to do the things you do
All of this was lacking in the presentations we received yesterday and it was disappointing to me as someone who has been doing all of the above for almost 2 decades I was expecting fire and passion I was expecting to be inspired and think Wow these people are fantastic and I didnt get any of that
If you truly care about what you do no matter what it is celebrate it shout about it use your voice to inspire others That is the role of an Ambassador noone wants to hear a job description of a compliance or compliance support role we can read them every day here on LinkedIn

Nationally quoted labor and employment business and sports attorney Founder of MLE Law a labor and employment sports and business law firm Host of The Quarter Four Podcast a business and sports podcast
ppPredictably some law student somewhere was going to make some asinine comments about the terrorist attacks in Israel and likely trash their legal career before it ever gets off the ground â because well the internet doesnât forget Okay maybe âtrashâ is a bit much but you get the idea
Enter NYU Student Bar Association President and now former Winston Strawn summer associate Ryna Workman to the chat
Ryna decided it was a good idea to tell the entire NYU Law School population and also the world because you know â the internet â that she has unwavering and absolute solidarity with Palestinians in their resistance against oppression toward liberation and selfdetermination Ryna also stated that âIsrael bears full responsibility for this tremendous loss of life This regime of statesanctioned violence created the conditions that made resistance necessary I will not condemn Palestinian resistance
As Joe Patrice stated in his article for Above The Law âYou know it really should not be difficult to adopt a âkidnapping and massacres are badâ postureâ Facts Joeâs article is linked in the first comment below
Ryna was slated to be a summer associate at Winston Strawn No more Winston Strawn terminated its summer offer to Ryna
But wait it gets better Wannabe keyboard warrior lawyers are now claiming that Winston Strawn violated Rynaâs First Amendment rights
I do love when people who have no idea what the First Amendment means invoke the First Amendment when someone is fired for making asinine public comments â like supporting terrorism So for the âher First Amendment Rights were violatedâ crowd hereâs a lesson on the First Amendment â and a few other things
ð The First Amendment applies to GOVERNMENT regulation of speech not private companies
This means that yes a person can say whatever they want This also means that if a private employer doesnât like what the person says it can fire the person for whatever they said and not violate the First Amendment because THE FIRST AMENDMENT DOES NOT APPLY TO PRIVATE COMPANIES
Now depending on what the person said the employer might be violating another law like the National Labor Relations Act or Title VII Not so in Reynaâs case
In short while the First Amendment does allow people to say what they want in the context of private companies it does not protect against consequences from those statements

Overcoming adversity Leadership in every environment
ppThe hardest ground to hold in war
The hardest ground to take and hold in war especially a counter insurgency or terrorist war is the moral high ground When a nation has been dealt a devastating and evil blow against its people the call for vengeance in the aftermath is palpable Dead children demand a response
The very best leaders understand that feeling but they also understand the negative effects of overreaction Hitting back in a proportionate manner is acceptable but hitting back in a manner that reduces the victim to the same moral level of the initiator removes the sympathy of the supporting world
When the Israelibacked Phalange militia entered the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982 they killed between 2000 and 3500 Palestinian refugees and Lebanese civilians in two days Menachem Begin who had been party to the King David Hotel bombing in Jerusalem in 1946 was Prime Minister
If Shatila was popular at home in Israel it certainly wasnt popular in the USA When American troops tortured prisoners in Abu Ghraib it was a an embarrassment to the holier than thou western forces in Iraq When British troops opened fire on a rioting crowd in Londonderry in 1972 killing thirteen the stain no matter how justified was never washed away The list goes on
Todays air attack by Benjamin Netanyahus forces on a refugee convoy obeying instructions to leave northern Gaza within twentyfour hours is going to be impossible to justify Despite the evil and terrible acts of Hamas in the past two days this response might be considered similar in its awfulness The housewives school children bus drivers and shop keepers killed in this attack were not Hamas murderers The high ground has been given away Claims of errors and lessons to be learned will be made but just like Shatila the stain will never be washed away
The world will no longer see a terrible criminal and a poor victim taking revenge They will see two criminals that are both as bad as one another This might not seem fair but fair does not have a place in international law where two wrongs do not make a right He hit me first doesnt count anymore
Some will now claim that Netanyahu wanted a reason to cleanse Gaza from the map He might get that wish Some of his people will thank him and believe that he has at last dealt with a problem that has gone on for sixty years That will not be how the arab world will view it especially Saudi Arabia
Until both sides love their children more than they hate their enemies there will never be peace
Oh Lord what fools these mortals be Shakespeare

ppINTERPOLÂ Guidelines for Digital Forensics First Responders
This guide aims to offer support and advice to Digital Forensic practitioners from law enforcement during the activities of search and seizure for identification and handling of electronic evidence through methods that guarantee their integrity
An electronic device should not be seized without due preconditions It is the investigation team together with the digital forensic experts that will assist in the collection and processing of electronic evidence who will determine whether it is relevant or not to obtain and process those electronic devices
Electronic evidence like all other traditional evidence must be carefully manipulated so that they can be incorporated as evidence in the judicial process
This affects both the physical integrity of the devices and the information or data contained therein It must be taken into consideration that some electronic devices require specific procedures for collecting packing and transporting either because they are susceptible to damage by electromagnetic fields or because they may suffer changes in their contents during handling and preservation
